Web Services Industry NewsLiberty Alliance contributes specifications toOASIS and announce phase 2 drafts April 16, 2003 The Liberty Alliance, a consortium formed to develop open standards for federated network identity, make "three important announcements". They announce the outcome of interoperability testing, public availability of phase 2 draft specifications, and the contribution of version 1.1 federated network identity specifications to OASIS. Today marked a significant milestone for the Liberty Alliance. We made three very important announcements at a press event that we're eager to share with you. First, we announced the outcome of some interoperability testing that has been underway over the past several months. Liberty Alliance's public interoperability event, being held at this week's RSA 2003 conference, brings together 20 of the industry's leading hardware, software, mobile device and service companies. These companies are showcasing how Liberty's Phase 1 specifications for opt-in account linking and simplified sign-on can be used today in numerous business scenarios. Companies participating in the event are AOL, Communicator Inc, Ericsson, HP, Jabber, Inc., Mycroft, NeuStar, Nokia, Novell, NTT, Ping Identity Corporation, Phaos Technology, PostX, SchlumbergerSema, Sigaba, Sun Microsystems, Symlabs, Trustgenix, Vodafone and Waveset. Each of these demonstrations shows the use of Liberty's version 1.1 specifications in existing products and services. Secondly, we announced public availability of our phase 2 draft specifications, which include security and privacy implementation guidelines as well as a "Privacy and Security Best Practices" document. These documents highlight global privacy laws and fair information practices, as well as provide implementation guidance for organizations using the Liberty Alliance specifications to build identity-based services. The Phase 2 draft specifications and related Privacy and Security documents are immediately available at www.projectliberty.org for public review and comment. The Liberty Alliance expects to incorporate comments and finalize the specifications in Q3 2003. These announcements followed up on an announcement late last week that we have contributed our version 1.1 federated network identity specifications to OASIS. The OASIS Security Services Technical Committee requested Liberty's contribution to permit possible incorporation of Liberty version 1.1 specification features in future versions of the OASIS Open Standard Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML).
