New working drafts of the Web services Policy 1.5

Overall, the Web Services Policy 1.5 Framework defines a model for expressing the true nature of Web services in order to set conditions for their interaction and a seamless integration.

Attachment defines how to associate Web services policies, for example within WSDL or UDDI, with subjects to which they specifically apply.

The goal of the Web Services Policy 1.5 Framework is to provide the various mechanisms needed to enable Web services applications to specify policy information.

Specifically, this specification defines the following:

1) An XML Infoset called a policy expression that contains domain-specific, Web Service policy information.

2) A core set of constructs to indicate how choices and/or combinations of domain-specific policy assertions apply in a Web services environment.

The Web Services Policy 1.5 Framework is designed to work with the general Web services framework, including WSDL service descriptions [ WSDL 1.1 , WSDL 2.0 Core Language ] and UDDI service registrations [UDDI API 2.0 , UDDI Data Structure 2.0 , UDDI 3.0].

The Web Services Policy 1.5 Attachment defines two general-purpose mechanisms
for associating policies with the subjects to which they apply; the policies may be defined as part of existing metadata about the subject or the policies may be defined independently and associated through an external binding to the subject.

To enable Web Services Policy to be used with existing Web service techno-
logies, this specification describes the use of these general-purpose mecha-
nisms with WSDL and UDDI.

Specifically, this specification defines the following:

a) How to reference policies from WSDL definitions
b) How to associate policies with deployed Web service endpoints
c) How to associate policies with UDDI entities
