Mindreef launches new version of SOAPscope
May 15, 2006 Mindreef announces today the availability of Mindreef SOAPscope version 5.1, an updated version to the company's Web services testing and diagnostics solution. Version 5.1 of SOAPscope adds new automated testing, diagnostics, and analysis features. The new release incorporates an automated testing feature that enables users to create and perform automated testing, regardless of whether they have knowledge of XML and scripting. The vendor states that this will open Web services quality assurance and verification to “everyone involved in the Web services lifecycle, from hands-on developers to high-level business analysts.” Automated testing also allows users to create a sequence of SOAP messages that can be replayed as a batch and stored for re-testing later in the process. This makes it possible to capture values from messages into variables and reuse them, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the testing process. The new release also includes a feature called Web Service Simulation, which enables users to create simulations of Web services that can serve as a prototype of a service before it exists, stand-in for a service that is unavailable, or act as a 'mock service' for testing purposes. A simulation is created by capturing SOAP messages, that, when used together, simulate an existing service. No coding is necessary, Mindreef says. A simulation can also be created directly from a WSDL by using SOAPscope's invoke forms. SOAPscope also now supports multiple workspaces, meaning it is possible for users to create and edit multiple workspaces directly within the product. This makes it possible to switch between several separate open workspaces, thereby eliminating the need to continuously import and export individual workspaces, the vendor said. The new release also expands on capabilities to create and resend SOAPscope messages with a fill-in-the-blank invoke forms. Specifically, the new version allows users to 'round trip' between SOAPscope's Pseudocode View and XML view, including the ability to edit a message in XML and view the changes as Pseudocode. In addition, SOAPscope's resend capability is now schema aware, so that full invoke form capability is available even when resending messages. SOAPscope 5.1 also provides a richer WSDL viewing capability, providing detailed online documentation that is automatically generated from a captured WSDL contract, according to Mindreef. Other new features in Mindreef SOAPscope 5.1 include integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, SOAP message differencing in Pseudocode View, full compatibility with Mindreef Coral, and improved SSL certificate management and control of SSL authentication policy. "We've been watching the Web services bell curve shift as our customers successfully make the transition from traditional architectures with Web services, to more broad-based service-oriented architectures," said Frank Grossman, Mindreef president and co-founder. "This makes it even more imperative that quality be built into the development and testing process from the start."
