OASIS faces a boycottFebruary 23, 2005 OASIS, the leading Web services, B2B and e-business standards body faces a major boycott based on its new intellectual property rules, which endorses technology that asks payment for royalties to its standards. The new policy goes into effect in April. Festa notes that a who’s who of open source advocacy – Mitchell Kapor, Lawrence Lessig, Tim O’Reilly, Bruce Perens, Eric Raymond, Lawrence Rosen, Doc Searls and Richard Stallman – signed an e-mail today endorsing a boycott. The money quote is from Rosen, former OSI general counsel. "We want organizations like OASIS to develop policies so any group that wants to use an industry standard can know in advance whether or not someone’s going to come along and reach into their pocketbook."
